Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit
A German Requiem - Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)

The German composer Johannes Brahms started working on his "German Requiem" before reaching the age of 30, and by the time he was 33 he had completed it in its essentials - a work whose character would lead one to suppose it to have been a product of ripe maturity.
Brahms added a particularly tender movement which was a direct outcome of his mother's death: "Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit" for Soprano, Chorus and Orchestra.

Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit;

[John 16, Verse 22]

Sehet mich an;

[Jes. 66, Verse 13]
